Compassion Over Killing (COK) released a new undercover video today documenting the severe abuse of chickens at yet another Tyson Foods supplier.

According to the organization that has been exposing cruelty to farmed animals while promoting veganism for more than two decades, a COK investigator had been working for several weeks inside Atlantic Farm, a Temperanceville, Virginia facility that is a house of horrors to more than 225,000 birds crammed inside filthy warehouses.

In addition to capturing harrowing footage of live chickens being thrown, hit, impaled, and stepped on, the gut-wrenching video reveals the hidden horrors chickens are forced to endure as a result of genetic manipulation for obesity and unnatural rapid growth.

This, despite Tyson publicly touting its “Commitment to Animal Well-Being,” including the “internationally-recognized Five Freedoms” for chickens: which includes freedom from hunger and thirst; discomfort; fear and distress; and pain, injury, or disease; as well as the freedom to express normal behavior.

Really?

“Our hidden-camera footage uncovers the egregious and systemic horrors Tyson allows its birds to endure behind closed doors,” explained Erica Meier, Compassion Over Killing’s Executive Director. “It’s time for Tyson to be a true leader by tackling the most pressing issues in its industry today by immediately ending the genetic manipulation of birds for rapid growth and expanding its investment in the consumer-driven future of food: plant-based proteins.”

COK has reportedly submitted its evidence to authorities and is encouraging immediate enforcement of Virginia’s animal protection laws.

This latest investigation tragically marks the second time in little more than one year that COK has exposed horrific cruelty to birds within the poultry giant’s supply chain.

In 2016, a COK undercover operation inside multiple Tyson Food broiler breeder factories in Virginia, revealed similar violent abuses: workers punching, kicking, and throwing live birds, birds crushed by forklifts, and more.

The video evidence drove the first court trials for cruelty to chickens raised for meat, resulting in nine former Tyson employees being convicted of 24 counts of animal cruelty.

“Compassion Over Killing applauds the prosecution’s work and the decisions from the court to uphold anti-cruelty laws and protect animals from such horrific cruelty to birds as documented by our undercover investigator working for Tyson,” Cheryl Leahy, General Counsel for Compassion Over Killing said at the time. “This is a landmark victory in achieving justice for farm animals.”

Apparently, much more justice is needed for these poor innocent animals that should never have been held captive and tortured in the first place.
